Dear Future Husband...
Dear future husband,
I wonder who you will be.
I wonder whether God will grant me the grace to live long enough to meet you.
And if He does,
I wonder who He set aside from the beginning to join with me in flesh during our short years on earth.
To walk alongside.
To grow together.
And in our small and ordinary ways, to change the world for Christ.
Dear future husband,
I used to want you to be tall and impressive, beautifully good-looking in the ways the world admires.
But these days, I find myself praying more for the heart you will carry—a heart for God, for me, for others, and for the world.
When I dream about you with my friends and pray for you in my secret moments,
I pray you would carry the kindness and compassion of Jesus,
that you would exude truth and goodness,
and that you would be unashamed of the gospel, embodying it wholeheartedly with your life,
because you truly believe it is the power of God for all who believe.
I pray you would be radiant for Christ,
a light to everyone in your path,
a reflection of His glory and a pathway that leads others toward it.
Dear future husband,
Though I long with hope for the day we may meet,
I trust completely in our Father’s timing and plan.
I pray He is shaping you now, teaching you His ways, forming your heart through obedience and surrender,
molding you day by day into the likeness of His Son.
I know He is doing that same work in me.
Dear future husband,
As you may also be wondering who God has set aside for you,
I pray you would see the beauty of the life unfolding right in front of you,
even before our paths cross.
I pray you would know the abundance Jesus offers us now, not someday.
That when we meet, it will not be to complete one another,
but to add to the fullness of joy we already possess,
because Jesus has always been enough.
I hope the world would be blessed when our hearts come together as one,
that hand in hand,
we would run faster and farther to make disciples of all nations,
and offer our lives of faith as an altar to the Lord,
broken vessels for God to do as He wills.
So, dear future husband,
wherever you are,
I hope you will keep fighting the good fight
and running the worthy race for our Jesus.
I am running it too, right where I am.
And until the day our paths meet,
may we be found faithful in the places God has called us,
seeking His face and pursuing His kingdom,
spending our lives for the sake of the gospel,
with our eyes fixed on the One who was always,
and will always be,
our prize.
“And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.” –Hebrews 12:1-2
